Northcliffe Allotment Society
Allotment Society with 150 members from existing plot holders. The Society is also open to interested members of public to take out associate membership.
There are 2 allotment sites - top and bottom site, and a project area in between which is being converted to a wild life community space and orchard. The society has now taken over management of the site from Bradford Council and people wanting plots can join the waiting list at http://northcliffe.btck.co.uk/
The society runs regular meetings for its members with speakers and other activities, organises bulk deliveries of manure, scaffold boards, bark chippings etc, as well as an annual plant sale with BBQ and a bonfire night in November. Members can hire a range of manual and power tools to help with their cultivation of their plots. All members are covered for the necessary insurance required of plot holders by the council. Members receive a regular newsletter and there is a Facebook group for plot holders to keep in contact with each other and post relevant notices and queries. We have a clubhouse where the committee meets and where the regular working parties gather to undertake jobs around the site, and where other Northcliffe related community events are based such as the Big Garden Bird watch each January and the regular mid week conservation group run by Friends of Northcliffe meet.
There is a monthly community garden and orchard group that meets the first Saturday of every month 10- 12, meeting at the club house and working on the community space and orchard areas to make them safe to be opened to the public. This is open to anyone from the local area so just turn up.
Bradford SANDS group is creating a memory garden within this community space.
